What is the difference between Japanese and Western barbering? There is no single answer: both traditions include many styles, and the experience varies from barber to barber. The useful question is what a particular salon offers and how it looks after you.
The Japanese approach we bring
At HIROGINZA, our approach draws on Japanese comprehensive grooming, often called “Sogo Chohatsu”. Haircutting, shampoo, facial shaving and finishing are considered parts of an overall grooming experience rather than entirely separate tasks.
Skill and hospitality together
We place value on consultation, cleanliness, clear explanations and small adjustments that make an appointment comfortable. The aim is to combine a considered result with the feeling that you have been treated carefully throughout your visit.
There is no need to choose a cultural stereotype
Western barbers also offer excellent consultation, precision work and traditional shaving. Japanese barbering is not one universal technique, either. We encourage guests to choose by the barber’s work, service details and ability to understand their preferences.
Adapting to Sydney
HIROGINZA PREMIUM BARBER SYDNEY DYMOCKS will bring the standards developed in Japan while adapting recommendations to each guest’s hair, lifestyle and preferred communication. We welcome a range of backgrounds and style preferences.
Our planned menu includes haircuts, traditional Japanese facial shaving, head spa and facial massage. The Signature Grooming Course is planned at AUD 150, or AUD 120 for a first visit; details may change.
We plan to open on 28 October 2026, subject to construction and required procedures, at Suite 5, Level 1, Dymocks Building, 428 George Street, Sydney NSW.
